The best part of Tokyo (in our opinion) 🌆 🇯🇵
Published 23 days ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
You’ve probably seen or even visited Tokyo’s classic attractions like Shibuya Crossing, Asakusa, Shinjuku, or even Harajuku.
But after living and traveling here, our favorite area might surprise you. It is Odaiba, the manmade island in Tokyo Bay.
Rain or shine, Odaiba is full of shopping, museums, parks, and attractions that work for family trips, date nights, or casual outings. And if you have ever watched a J-drama with twinkling city lights by the water, chances are it was filmed here.
We think Odaiba deserves at least half a day on your itinerary, but a full day is even better.
Highlights We Love in Odaiba
To be honest, Odaiba might look small on the map, but it is packed with entertainment. These are our top picks for a summer day when you want to explore and still stay cool.
Joypolis: Hands down the best indoor amusement park in Tokyo. It is full of VR games, rollercoasters, and rides that get your adrenaline going. A perfect choice whether it is raining, blazing hot, or you just want something fun and over the top.
Poop Museum (Unko Museum): A quick and quirky stop that is exactly what it sounds like…everything poop themed. It is inside DiverCity Mall, which also has endless shopping, character stores like Doraemon, Sanrio, and One Piece, plus tons of food options.
Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam: Just outside DiverCity, this massive Gundam moves every couple of hours. You do not need to be a fan or even know the story. It is one of those “only in Tokyo” sights you should not miss, and it only takes a few minutes to enjoy.

Small Worlds Miniature Museum: A short ride away but worth it if you love miniatures. From entire airports to space stations to little neighborhoods, the level of detail is wild. Best part? You can scan yourself and turn it into a miniature version.
Statue of Liberty & Bayside Walk: Odaiba has its very own Statue of Liberty replica. Paired with Rainbow Bridge in the background, it is one of the best spots for a sunset walk. Stick around a little longer to see Tokyo Bay light up at night.

Stay Near Odaiba: InterContinental Tokyo Bay
If you want to base yourself near Odaiba, this is our top pick.
We decided to splurge a little at the InterContinental Tokyo Bay and it quickly became one of our favorite stays in Tokyo.
The bay views from the room were stunning. I actually sat by the window just to watch the sunrise.
The facilities felt high end without being stuffy, and the Yurikamome Line station right downstairs made getting to Odaiba easy and convenient.
Ride the Yurikamome Line: It is driverless, crosses Rainbow Bridge, and the front seats give you the best bay views.
Plan for the afternoon into evening: Start with indoor attractions during the day, then head outside for a sunset stroll. If you stay after dark, the city lights over the water are incredible.
Give it time: Odaiba looks compact on the map, but with malls, museums, and seaside walks, you can easily fill a full day here. Get our full Tokyo itinerary here.
Good any season: In summer you can cool off indoors and enjoy breezy walks by the bay. In cooler months there is still plenty of entertainment so you are not stuck freezing outside.
Coming up next: we are taking you to Akihabara, Tokyo’s world of anime, arcades, electronics…and those giant adult stores you probably will not walk into without blushing.

Dana & Robert

Hi Reader, We have been to Osaka 6 times now, and this trip we carved out half a day for a little escape: Katsuoji Temple and Minoh Falls. Totally different vibes, but together they made for a calm, nature-filled break from the city. If you want all of our Osaka recommendations, here’s our previous issue with handpicked spots, where we stayed, and extra tips for making the most of your time in Osaka. Stop 1: Katsuoji — The Temple of Victory and Luck Just an hour from Osaka by subway and bus,...
Hi Reader, Hello from Osaka! Hard to believe this is our 6th time here, but somehow this city still keeps us on our toes. The vibe is so different from Tokyo. Osaka is warmer, louder (in a good way), and always, always more delicious than we remember. If Osaka is on your list, here's our 3-day Osaka itinerary based on our favorite finds, plus a few things we’d do differently next time. We highly recommend grabbing the Osaka Amazing Pass: a 1-day or 2-day pass that covers 40+ attractions and...
